At Avanse Financial Services, we strive to make your academic journey seamless, and hence, we have introduced our Students Speak series for study abroad aspirants like you. In this episode, we are in conversation with Sanket Pokar, who is set to fly to Canada to pursue a Master In Business Administration (MBA) in Entrepreneurship from the University Canada West (UCW). Let’s look at his academic journey so far, his educational institute, course and how he found his dream university.
Key Highlights:
Quick introduction
His love for food encouraged Sanket to complete his BSc in culinary arts from a premiere college located in Pune. After acquiring culinary skill sets, he immediately joined one of the 5-star hotels in Mumbai, where he worked for a year and a half. Sanket decided to take his passion a notch higher by opening up a bakery. He noticed how other businesses were ramping up production and sales to achieve business growth. This encouraged him to pursue an MBA to develop his business acumen, sharpen his finance-related knowledge, and acquire marketing skills to run a successful venture.
About his educational institute - University Canada West
University Canada West was formed in 2004, with courses in specialisations such as business and technology. Approximately 11,000 students are enrolled from ~110 countries in UCW. It offers Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) recognised and Chartered Managers Canada (NCMA) accredited programs. UCW is also popular with the Career Development Centre (CDC), designed to assist students in launching their careers. CDC provides career counselling to make their students job-ready.
About his course - MBA in Entrepreneurship
This 2-year business management program is designed to impart domain-specific skill sets and to achieve business success. The course also focuses on equipping students with advanced technological knowledge. Hence, the university has collaborated with tech giants such as Salesforce and IBM to include the latest digital trends in the coursework.
How did his networking skills help him find his dream university?
During his stint with a premiere hotel in Mumbai, he met with a friend whose brother was pursuing his MBA from UCW. So, his friend recommended UCW for a business management course. After conducting online research and checking the university website, Sanket found that UCW gives the flexibility to choose the specialisation in the second year. Since he desired to pursue an MBA in Entrepreneurship, he resolved to pursue his higher education at UCW.
He got all the necessary details about the course structure and contact details of the university consultant from the website. He connected with UCW’s consultant to clarify his doubts and understand the study program in detail. Apart from their official website, he also visited their social media handles to gather all the necessary information.
So, this is all about Sanket’s academic journey so far, his educational institute, course and how he found his dream university. In the next episode, we will learn about his reasons for choosing Canada, how he drafted a compelling SOP, English proficiency tests, and Student Direct Stream (SDS) & Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC).
