Let’s get to know Ashutosh Borkar

With the clear goal of becoming a successful Engineer, he chose the Engineering domain for his undergraduate course. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree from a reputed educational institution in 2021. To gain work experience, he worked with leading businesses as a Mechanical Engineer. His hobbies are cooking, listening to music and watching some interesting series. The motivation to learn new things encouraged him to pursue higher education and delve deeper into his domain. He is currently studying MSc in Industrial and System Engineering at the University of Michigan, which is located in Dearborn city of the US. Interestingly, Ford Motor Company was founded in Dearborn, and as he was fascinated with the automobile engineering segment, he chose to study in this city.

About his university

The University of Michigan is a public university and was established in 1959. The university offers ~70 graduate programs across various streams, such as Business Management, Engineering and Computer Science, among others. The programs are accredited by Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Approximately 8,200 students study at the University of Michigan, and the faculty-student ratio is 1:16.

About his course

The program imparts the knowledge and skills to enable students to learn to design, install and manage humungous industrial equipment and systems. You will learn some interesting subjects such as Production and Operations Engineering, Safety Engineering, Research Methods in Human Factors and Ergonomics, Quantitative Methods in Quality Engineering and more. The students are provided with the right and latest tools to find innovative solutions to complex engineering problems to provide them with hands-on experience. Although GRE is not required for this, a bachelor’s degree is a must to apply for the graduate program.

What inspired him to study abroad?

His overseas education plans were slowly taking shape during his undergraduate years. What strengthened his desire to fly abroad for higher studies was a seminar arranged by his university in his final year. A few students who returned after completing their education abroad shared their experiences in this session. This helped him recognise the opportunity to learn a new culture, access quality education, and develop a whole new perspective. During this seminar, a senior explained the application process, visa process, and other aspects, which allowed him to carve out his path.

So, this is all about Ashutosh’s academic journey so far, university, course and his inspiration to pursue his higher education abroad. In the next episode, we will learn about his research mechanism and entrance exams. Meanwhile, if you have any queries, please remember we are just a call away.
