The university was established in 2004 and offers several degree courses in domains such as Business Communication, Commerce, Arts, and Business Management. As of September 2023, ~14,000 students have enrolled from 110+ countries. UCW houses a Career Development Centre to enable students to connect with employers for an easy transition from academics to their professional careers.
The university has an exceptional employability percentage as ~95% of the MBA graduate either find work or have a job opportunity lined up within 1 year of completing their studies, which impressed him. Furthermore, since the university is based in Vancouver, a cosmopolitan city is a perfect place for students to build their network. Also, it is an economic hotspot, so students can explore work opportunities after completing their education at UCW.
About his course: MBA
It is a 2-year on-campus study program, which will commence in April 2024 and end in March 2026. Students can choose from several intakes: Fall (October), Winter (January), Spring (April), Summer (July). The key highlight of the MBA courses UCW offers is that the latest technology used by businesses, such as Salesforce, Amazon, Shopify, Facebook and others, is part of the curriculum. This program will enable the aspirants to design efficient business strategies for a wide range of business challenges. The coursework focuses on imparting skills necessary to develop a global outlook to work in multicultural operating environments.
What encouraged him to pursue higher education
Although Ashutosh flourished at the workplace, he felt he could achieve a lot more professionally if he pursued higher education. Moreover, COVID-19 posed a threat to numerous businesses, including startups. Hence, he decided to upskill to gain leverage in the competitive job market. According to him, “job security” is a state of mind. So, no organisation will ever find your replacement if you are the best at what you do. Hence, higher education is crucial for developing expertise and industry-specific skills. Besides, his managers, mentors, colleagues, and peers encouraged him to expand his horizons by opting for education loans to study abroad.
Moreover, Ashutosh strongly believed that a bachelor’s degree alone is insufficient to accelerate his career, and a master’s degree is essential to climb up the ladder. To reach the highest-ranking executive of the organisation, you need to fine-tune your domain-specific skills and knowledge.
So, this is all about Ashutosh’s academic and professional journey so far, university, course, and what encouraged him to pursue higher education. In the next episode, let’s understand his experience with the English proficiency test, the role of his education consultant and his research mechanism.
