In the last episode, we covered Dilip Kumar Kasina’s extensive research, the university application process, and things to keep in mind during the admission process. In this episode, let’s understand his preparatory phase, how he found a perfect education loan partner and his invaluable tips for study abroad aspirants.
Key Highlights:
Dilip joined coaching classes specialising in English language tests to prepare for IELTS. He had enrolled for a 45-day course. After studying, he appeared for several mock tests to practice and also to understand the time required to complete each section. He also referred to several YouTube platforms sharing preparatory information for such competitive exams to dive deeper into the format, section, study schedule and more. He read GRE study material and books that helped him prepare for verbal and quantitative sections. He invested 3 months to prepare for the GRE, which enabled him to clear it with flying colours.
Dilip evaluated his financial requirements and decided to opt for an unsecured student loan (without collateral). His friends recommended a student-friendly partner that brings together students, financial institutions and universities. This platform helped him connect with Avanse Financial Services. The team Avanse, was quick to respond and ensured he received the hyper-personalised student loans as per his financial requirements.
He was delighted to share his experience with Avanse Financial Services because he was amazed by the hassle-free process. The Avanse representative stayed in touch with him from the application to the disbursement process, guiding him every step of the way. All his doubts were addressed quickly, and the team educated him on the procedures, important documents, etc. Once all the documents were shared, his student loan was disbursed.
His family, peers, and education journey planning partner he was in touch with had initially shared how education loans work. This provided Dilip with valuable insights on various facets, including repayment, documents, etc. His friends who had previously taken study loans shared their experiences, enabling a seamless journey.
Dilip shared his experiences so prospective students aspiring to study overseas can enjoy a smooth journey. Here are some insights into his learnings that you can consider:
The interest rate is not the only important aspect to consider when selecting an education loan partner. In fact, there are several other parameters, such as customer service, TAT, features and benefits offered, to name a few.
Your university, approved by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), will issue form I-20, “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status.” The next step is to register with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). After the SEVIS registration, you can apply for a student visa at a US Embassy or Consulate. You have to fill out Form DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application, and select the visa appointment slot. Attend the visa interview and complete the biometrics.
Dilip highlighted that if you need to make any corrections in the DS-160 form, it is necessary to inform embassy officials so that they can assist you. Since the form is a crucial document, it should be error-free. So, don’t panic if you make any mistakes; bring them to the embassy’s attention.
According to him, some students go blank when asked about their course during the visa interview. Therefore, knowing your course in detail, including aspects such as curriculum, format, subjects, duration, course content, etc., is essential. Also, be prepared to answer how this course is aligned with your previous academic background and future career plans.
