America has a lot of great film schools. Each one of these schools has its own unique qualities and provides great knowledge about the industry, which helps the students grow immensely. However, getting admission into the film school of your choice has become a little trick over the last few years. This is because there has been a substantial hike in the number of universities & film programs. This can cloud the judgment of students and make it hard to make a confident selection. For the students who are confused as to which film school to apply for, here is a list of the top film schools in America right now.

University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts :

There are numerous articles that list the top film schools in the US; the USC usually tops all of these lists. This film school has more connections in the film industry than any other film school in the world. To add to its glory, USC even has a Hollywood Walk of Fame star to its name. The school’s location plays a big role in establishing its status, as it is located in the plush and happening city of Los Angeles. Apart from getting internship opportunities, students are also given the privilege to attend several star-studded events. This gives them an amazing opportunity to establish contact with the industry’s professionals and start networking at a young age. Getting into this dream school is however extremely tough as only 3% of the total applicants get selected.

NYU Tisch :

There is a known film industry belief that USC is meant for making a great living, while NYU Tisch is for creating art. This popular belief is based on the fact that while Los Angeles is the hub of commercial films, New York is said to be the place for creative independent filmmaking. Tisch offers an undergraduate program featuring three degrees, which are Cinema Studies, Dramatic Writing, and Film & Television. NYU has a shining alumni that features legends like Spike Lee and Martin Scorsese. It offers internship opportunities at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

AFI :

AFI is another one of those film schools that always feature on any ranking list. Students do not have to worry about having a degree certificate as this school even opens its doors to applicants who are not graduates. AFI has specialized programs that students can take on. These degrees feature courses in Cinematography, Editing, Directing, Production Design, Producing and Screenwriting.

Chapman University :

Undergraduate students at Chapman University have the option of gaining degrees in Digital Arts, Creative Producing, Television Writing, Film Production, News/Broadcast Journalism and Documentary. For students who are sure of what they want to get into after they get done with high school, Chapman University is just the place to be at, as this university offers highlight specialized programs that help students hone their skills and make it big in ‘reel’ life.
