New rules for Australia student visa 2023: An overview

  • From 1 July 2023, student visa holders are allowed to work for a maximum of 48 hours per fortnight (previously, students with valid student visas were allowed to work for only 40 hours per fortnight) while studying. This development will enable students to support themselves financially, gain Australian education and valuable work experience and focus on their studies. However, they are free to work for unrestricted hours during breaks.
  • The Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES) will reserve 3,000 spots for students from Engineering, Information & Communication Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Financial Technology, Renewable Energy and Mining domains. This scheme will allow Indian students to spend two years in Australia without visa sponsorship.
