MIT, USA Admission Process

Before discussing the admission process, let’s take note of a few important things:

  • Identify the departmental programs to study graduate programs at MIT because each department has a separate application portal and unique admission requirements that international students need to meet. For instance, GradApply is the online application portal for graduate programs created by MIT and accessed by most departments for accepting graduate admission applications, except for the MIT Sloan School of Management.
  • Regardless of the course chosen, you need to clear and submit the scores of any of the English language proficiency exams:
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE)
  • Depending on the course requirements, you need to take either of the following:
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) for management studies
  • Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) for all graduate exams, including MBA

The step-by-step process to get admission at MIT is as follows:

  • Create your account on the GradApply online application portal, complete the application form and submit the necessary documents as mentioned.
  • Pay the standard application fee of $75(~INR 6,225). Please remember that the fees will not be refunded if the university rejects your application.
  • An interview, though not mandatory, is an important part of the admission process. MIT’s education counsellor will contact you and schedule the interview accordingly.
  • Once the application is accepted and you receive a letter of acceptance from the university, apply for the right kind of visa.
