A mock test is one of the best ways to prepare yourself for an entrance exam. Mock tests give you an idea of how ready you are to give the actual exam and how long you take to solve the test. Most of the toppers of the CAT exam have studied with the help of mock tests and advised students to solve as many mock tests as possible before appearing for the CAT exam. Here’s everything you need to know about CAT Mock Test.

Why do you need to take the CAT mock test?

The CAT exam is divided into three sections: Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation, and Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension. By taking a mock test, you will be able to evaluate your preparedness, understand your strong and weak points, and if you are able to complete the test within the set duration. For instance, if you are good at Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, you can focus more on the other two sections.

By practising the CAT Mock test, you increase the chances of clearing the CAT exam and attaining a good percentile. Also, a mock test gives the students an idea of the pattern of the actual CAT exam, how the marking is done, and the questions that have a chance of appearing on the actual test. A common practice is to solve the question papers of the previous 5 years. Although you can take a mock test to prepare for CAT Exam from several educational websites, the CAT Mock Test available on the official website of IIMCAT is more reliable.

When do you take the CAT mock test?

Since the mock test is an important part of the whole CAT preparation, students should start taking the mock test at least 4-5 months before the CAT exam. Always remember the golden rule – the more you practice, the better you get. Students should start with one mock test every ten days and then keep increasing the count of the mock tests in the last month of preparation. Monitoring your progress, identifying the areas of improvement and persistently scoring well in the mock test will ensure success in your CAT exam.

The actual CAT exam is scheduled around November or December every year. The official mock test will be available on the IIMCAT website around October. The duration allotted to each of the three sections is 40 minutes, so the total duration is 120 minutes.
