Are you allowed to work while you study in Italy?

Whether to work part-time or not is entirely your choice. Many students prefer working part-time while studying abroad as it helps them earn some extra bucks to cover the living expenses. If you plan to study in Italy, you will be thrilled to know that you can work part-time for up to 20 hours a week. However, you need a valid work permit to work part-time while you study in Italy.
In order to get a work permit, you need to approach your employer for an employment contract. Submit a copy of this contract to the immigration office in Italy. Please remember that it may take ~2 weeks or more to receive your work permit. Hence, we advise you that if you plan to work while studying, it is best to apply for part-time jobs soon after landing in Italy.


Essential things to know about residence permit required to study in Italy

Once you arrive in Italy, you will have to apply for a residence permit within 8 working days by visiting any post office. The authorities at the post office will give you a kit with the application form. To apply for a residence permit to study in Italy, please carry all the necessary documents that you must submit along with your application form. After completing the procedure, you can submit the request for a residence permit at police headquarters which is known as Questura in Italy. You can check if your residence permit is ready by visiting the immigration portal or website of the respective Questura. Also, you will receive an SMS about the place and time to collect your residence permit once it is ready.

Some important documents you will need for a residence permit

· To study in Italy, you will require a copy of your passport with the updated information to apply for the residence permit.
· A copy of health insurance policy
· A letter from your university confirming your admission

Some important tips to remember

· If you are late to apply for a student visa for any reason, you can check with the embassy if there are any cancellations and plan accordingly.
· To study in Italy, you need to arrange your accommodation in advance since you have to provide proof of the same when you apply for the visa.
· Ensure you have extra copies of the documents, which will help you avoid the last-minute rush.
· Also, ensure that you have a softcopy of every document as a backup.
· Once you land in Italy, you must apply for a residence permit within 8 working days. Please remember to visit the closest post office for the declaration of presence in order to get your residence permit.
